There is some confusion in the press about whom this blog belongs to. Let’s clear that up.
Celluloid Blonde is the personal blog of screenwriter Max Adams. That is why it says “the sometimes suspect musings of max adams” right up there at the top of the blog.
Also. Max Adams is female.
Jeez, whatever happened to fact checking?
Love and Kisses,
Your Max Dammit Adams Girl

The day PJ McIlvaine was —
Supposed to be celebrating the baptism of a child, two strangers knocked on her door and informed her, in front of her children, 20th Century Fox was suing her for 15 million dollars. Two hours later, after grilling her with questions for two solid hours, they left her stunned and crying in her living room staring at a business card that stated they were “private investigators.”
This was the first contact PJ had from 20th Century Fox regarding a Media Fire online script library she created — and was the day 20th Century Fox filed a law suit against PJ in federal court for fifteen million dollars.
PJ is a struggling screenwriter who sells flowers over the phone by day and writes scripts by night. She has two produced credits. She is a recognizable presence on internet screenwriting bulletin boards ["Limama" on Done Deal]. She collected scripts she found [already] posted online and placed them in an online library on a Media Fire web page and made those scripts available to other screenwriters. Free of charge. As an educational tool.
•She doesn’t sell advertising.
•She doesn’t charge a membership fee.
•She doesn’t sell the material.
•She makes it available to other screenwriters for free.
•She posts scripts for educational purposes only.
•She only posts scripts already available on other sites online.
PJ doesn’t have the kind of cash needed to hire an attorney. Like I said, days she works a telephone line selling flowers to make ends meet and nights she writes — fighting to bridge that artist-who-does-art vs. artist-who-gets-paid-for-art gap. In between she is caring for an elderly relative suffering from dementia. In between that she is caring for an infant. She is going to need help. If you can help, please send a small gift donation via :::PayPal::: to pjscriptcooperative@gmail.com — people are putting together a small fund to help PJ retain an attorney.

Meet Diesel. Diesel was roaming Wilshire Blvd when a crazed pedestrian snatched him out of the way of exciting Wilshire traffic and handed him off to my friend Robin who took him to a vet where he weighed in at 1.1 pounds. [Wow, that is heart, taking on Wilshire traffic when you weigh 1.1 pounds.] He is very little. He gets food on his nose. He is coming home to stay with me for a bit.
Diesel needs a home.
Maybe with you.

the letter

This is a very cool letter that Jim Dean at Democracy for America sent out post the election:
Max –
Thank you.
You and DFA members nationwide did incredible work trying to save Democrats from themselves.
You deserve the credit for never giving up and fighting all the way to the end.
Together, we raised over one million dollars for progressives candidates, made over one million phone calls in 16 tight races, and delivered over 250,000 volunteer hours on the ground.
While it was a tough night, we had a few important victories too. DFA 2010 Progressive Hero Barbara Boxer won. Public Option Heroes Michael Bennet, Kristen Gillibrand, Jared Polis, and Chellie Pingree all won without running away from their votes for Healthcare. Co-Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus Raul Grijalva was in the fight of his life and won. In fact 94% of the rest of the Progressive Caucus also won (compared to only 47% of the Blue Dogs).
Florida amendments legally requiring fair redistricting of congressional districts — instead of Republican-controlled gerrymandering — won. The anti-environmental Proposition 23 in California, which could have rolled back some of the most important clean air laws in the country, was defeated. And bold progressive Peter Shumlin was elected the first Democratic Governor of Vermont since Howard Dean left office in 2002.
The fact is progressive heroes who lost last night like Russ Feingold and Alan Grayson became collateral damage in a toxic election environment created by weak leadership and corporate Democrats who refused to stand up and fight for real change. Progressives like Annie Kuster, Mary Jo Kilroy, and Tom Perriello ran some of the strongest grassroots campaigns in history, but were drowned out by unregulated corporate front groups that spent hundreds of millions to scare and lie to voters.
The biggest lesson from last night is actually pretty simple. For Democrats to win in the future, they need to fight for the people they represent and stop cutting deals to water down reform with the same corporate interests who will turn around and spend unlimited amounts of money to defeat Democrats year after year.
It was a tough election and it’s a tough fight ahead of us, but we have no regrets for fighting every day to move America forward — and we never will.
Thank you, Max, for everything you do.
-Jim
