the great feng shui project continues

 

I am all proud of myself today.

I feng shuied the bed.

The bed has this massive mattress that is all one piece and it used to have special covers that covered that to make the mattress base look all boxy and clean and nice. They were very fancy and very expensive and also a royal nightmare to put on because they were all stretchy and bizarre with little bed foot holes and straps that just required wrestling technique to apply to the bed.

[I think these bed covers would have been really happy in some S&M bondage club.]

I used to have a stack of these things and that was pretty important when I had dogs because dogs just like to brush up against corners of furniture and smudge them so you have to have extras to change them out pretty regularly.

With each move though, another stretchy bondage bed base cover bit the dust. This is because apparently movers cannot move a Dux bed without slamming it into concrete at least five times. And on the last move, the final stretchy bondage bed base cover bit the dust and there was no bed base cover at all.

This made the bed base look pretty naked but that was better than having the bed base wear some strange aberrantly damaged by brushes with concrete bed base cover so I let it just sit that way a long long time.

But today I got special sheets [no way am I popping for the real bed base cover those things cost the sky and I write indy films now not big studio pictures which is kind of interesting but not expensive stretchy bondage bed base covers budget friendly] and re-canvased the bed base.

It looks pretty clean and nice now and not naked.

Feng shui bed.

Wow.

You know that just spells trouble and is clearly a danger to Ginny’s vows. She cannot have some hot arborist trotting around her yard doing manly things she could succumb any second but fortunately for Ginny she has me and I am just throwing myself on my sword here Ginny next time the hot arborist is over just wave a cross and chloroform around until temptation and he collapse then stuff him in a box and ship him to my address.

Whew! Marriage saved.

volcano taco

 

There is —

A “volcano taco” commercial on the television. I cannot hear the sound, I have been working and had the sound muted I just like to have some sort of visual something dancing around in the background. But now I look up and see “volcano taco.”

The “volcano taco” has a strangely stiff and misshapen cardboardy outer shell that is some color of red that only occurs naturally on the planet Zorg. It is sitting on top of volcanic rocks.

All I can think when I see this commercial is, Does anybody actually find pumice stone delectable and delicious looking [the last time I used pumice stone on anything it was on a callous on my foot] and would anybody actually put food that color in their mouth?

Last week —

For two solid days starting freakishly early, someone was jack hammering outside.

This should have had me really worried.

Mostly it had me sort of pissed off.

How much concrete could they need to break up?

The real worry was this is happening right when my lease is expiring when I am thinking I really want to stay and am fixing the place up hanging art that has been sitting a year because [hello] fear of commitment usually slows art hanging down just that long.

But then people start jack hammering outside and for a month the manager had not replaced lights at entrances I told him were out and I just start to worry about stuff like that. And then —

Miracle! The other day I heard the sound of a squeaky ladder outside and when I went outside later, the lights were all fixed.

Yay! Yay! Yay!

In the last four weeks —

I can count two, count ‘em, two days in which someone has not mentioned facebook. It is like The Borg. Everyone I talk to is saying facebook facebook facebook.

one day i woke up

 

And I did not hurt.

It is a funny thing when you carry hurt a long time. You get used to it. You live with it. It becomes a part of you you just carry. A familiar weight. And when it goes away, you do not know at first what is different. Something is different. But it takes some thought to know what it is.

I woke up one day and I was not in pain.

I had to turn that over in my head some to absorb it. To even know it. To even know what was changed.

No pain.

Loke and Dolph and Jones died. And my shattered love life made its disaster crash right after Jones went.

That was three years ago.

And I was walking hurting for a long long time.

And then one day I wasn’t.

Today I do not hurt.

It has almost stopped feeling strange. This lack of pain.
